An anonymous donor donated $100 million to Toronto’s Center for Addiction and Mental Health.
The amount will be used to fund more research on mental illnesses, affecting some 6.7 million Canadians.
“Complex problems require complex solutions,” says CAMH President and CEO Dr. Catherine Zahn.
“We need to invest in basic research and clinical innovation that will improve the health of individuals and populations locally, nationally and globally. This gift will help us achieve this goal.”
The gift is by far the largest gift ever given to a mental health center in Canada, and is the equivalent of one-third of CAMH’s annual budget of just over $ 300 million.
“I have seen the devastating impact of mental illness on individuals and their families,” said the anonymous donor. “I want to help the next generation of researchers and scientists continue research that will directly transform care.”
