Experts could not create cement durability until now when a team of researchers discovered something innovative in the field.
Ecowatch revealed that researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder created “an entirely new material with minerals that are deposited from cyanobacteria.”

In other words, these are common microbes that are able to capture energy through photosynthesis.
The process means that the plants will absorb carbon dioxide, and this is the opposite of the industry standsrd concrete, which triggers the production of huge quantities of greenhouse gasses.
It’s been also revealed that regular concrete is an unfavorable environment for bacteria, but this new material that has been discovered has a process that’s based on bacteria.
It’s also worth noting that the material looks green.
“It really does look like a Frankenstein material,” said Wil Srubar, a structural engineer and the head of the research project, as The New York Times reported. However, the green color fades as the material dries.
The experts said that this huge discovery would be paving the way for living buildings in the future. These could heal their own cracks and purify the air at the same time, according to the latest reports coming from Daily Mail.
“Microorganisms can be leveraged for multiple purposes in the design of living building materials, including increasing the rate of manufacturing, imparting mechanical benefit, and sustaining biological function,” experts said.
