Life on Earth Extends Back at Least 3.5 Billion Years According to Scientists

Telling exactly when life created its roots on Earth represent a tough mission for scientists. They battled with this challenge over the years, only to find out that the struggle is more real than the discovery itself. Thinking about fossils and the way they are discovered, it is a complicated process, too that it could take many years. The fossils, however, could date back to tens of millions of years, but imagining a proof of life dating back to several billion years. This thing makes everything a lot harder!

A team of researchers from the University of New South Wales from Australia made a discovery worth noticing. They discovered something revolutionary, a proof of microbial life going back to a very long period of 3.5 billion years. What is the microbial life? It represents some little ancient minerals discovered in Earth’s oldest rocks. These minerals help the researchers to explore the idea that life has its roots on Earth billions of years before humans started to explore the ancient periods.

Analyzing further the rocks, they were initially found in the 80s. They were showing some mineralized microbial systems known as stromatolites. These rocks, however, were kept for way too long unanalyzed.

Researchers got the help from modern technology systems which allowed them to take tests on the fossils. They found a high rate of microbial life existence, some remains which died three-and-a-half billion years ago. Dr. Raphael Baumgartner, the head of the team of researchers, offers more details about their discovery. He said, “The organic matter that we found preserved within pyrite of the stromatolites is exciting. We’re looking at exceptionally preserved coherent filaments and strands that are typical remains of microbial biofilms.”

Scientists, however, approved a timeline of life on Earth that extends back to 3.5 billion years, approximately. This statement was before finding the evidence, whatsoever.
