The US President Donald Trump just announced he’s halting funding to the World Health Organization while a review is being conducted.
He said that this review would cover WHO’s “role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of coronavirus.”
Trump’s announcement comes amidst the worst global pandemic in decades. The president accuses WHO of failure to investigate and accurately report on the coronavirus outbreak in China.
“Today I’m instructing my administration to halt funding of the World Health Organization while a review is conducted to assess the World Health Organization’s role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the Coronavirus. Everybody knows what’s going on there,” Trump said.
The US President continued and explained that “American taxpayers provided between $400 million and $500 million per year to the W.H.O. In contrast, China contributes $40 million a year and even less as the organization’s leading sponsor.”
The most terrible WHO decision
Trump also made sure to highlight that one of the most terrible WHO decisions was to oppose travel restrictions from China and other nations. He said that the WHO was veer much opposed to the fact that the US implemented these restrictions, but Trump was not impressed and suspended travel from China.
Trump accused WHO of failing to obtain, vet, and share data in a timely and transparent way, and he made sure to remind people that the world depends on WHO to work with countries and reveal crucial data.
Trump stated the following: “The W.H.O. Failed to investigate credible reports from sources in Wuhan that conflicted directly with the Chinese government’s official accounts.”
“There was credible information to suspect human to human transmission in December 2019, which should have spurred the W.H.O. to investigate and investigate immediately,” the US President said.
It’s safe to say that the world is in the middle of the most significant crisis that our generation will probably witness.
